IBM expands Project Lightwell as AI changes software security

AI Insight:The rise of AI-powered vulnerability exploits underscores the need for AI-driven security solutions to stay ahead of emerging threats.

The increasing use of artificial intelligence (AI) in software development and security has created a paradox: while AI has improved the efficiency and accuracy of software development, it has also enabled threat actors to exploit vulnerabilities more quickly. As a result, the window between the discovery of a vulnerability and the launch of an attack has shrunk, making it more challenging for companies to protect themselves. In response, IBM has expanded its Project Lightwell, an initiative aimed at using AI to improve software security. By leveraging AI-driven technologies, such as machine learning and natural language processing, Project Lightwell aims to identify and remediate vulnerabilities more effectively, reducing the risk of cyber attacks. Other companies, including Palo Alto Networks and OpenAI, are also exploring the use of AI in software security, highlighting the growing recognition of the need for innovative solutions to combat emerging threats.
